Charles Gaines asks us to think critically about the systems we live within—to see the ways in which they are socially constructed, and to question the hierarchies that they uphold. This short film for Art21 follows Charles over the course of a year as he works on his first large-scale public art project, including a performance in Times Square and a monumental kinetic sculpture on Governors Island.
